VGSA projects and initiatives.

SoCal GPS

Every year, the SoCal Graduate Pathways to STEM (SoCal GPS) conference aims to promote graduate school to underrepresented, first generation, and low income rising leaders in Southern California and its neighboring areas. The conference is organized annually by a dedicated committee of graduate students from VGSA. Thus far, it has been held in 2020, 2022, and 2023.

Trojan Tank

The Trojan Tank competition brings together students from Marshall and Viterbi to develop and showcase a startup idea. The competition consists of two rounds. In Round 1, students showcase their idea in a 15-minute presentation. In Round 2, students provide a developed plan or demonstration to prove the profitability, feasibility, and practicality of their idea.

Period Project

Menstrual health is as important as physical health, and owing to our increasing population of women in STEM, VGSA is partnering with Viterbi and USC to provide free menstrual products to students while USC implements permanent access to free products. Through this initiative, we intend to not only provide accessibility to period products, but also to educate, empower, and create a community of healthy conversations and free dialogue around menstruation. See the page for The Period Project for more info.
